Vinpocetine is a vincamine alkaloid used in the management of senile dementia by improving blood flow to the brain and enhancing memory. It has also been used to prevent and reduce the chance of disability and death from ischemic stroke.
Aspirin is an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used as an analgesic, antipyretic and antiinflammatory agent at high doses, while at low doses, used as an antiplatelet and cardioprotective agent.
The concomitant use of both Vinpocetine and Aspirin can lead to a moderate drug interaction. This is because Vinpocetine might slow blood clotting. In addition to the antiplatelet activity of Aspirin, the chances of bruising and bleeding is significantly increased.
Other NSAIDs that can cause similar interaction include diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.
This is considered a moderate drug interaction in which close monitoring is advised.
